New Charleston, Springfield VA

New Charleston

New Charleston is a small neighborhood of single family homes in Springfield, VA built at the end of the 1980s. The design of the homes is modeled on the homes of colonial Charleston, SC.  Most homes feature balconies, double balconies, single or double garages and 1 or 2 fireplaces. The interior design of these homes is very efficient and open.  The living space on these homes is around 3,000 square feet with open floor plans, spacious master bedrooms.

This neighborhood of manicured lawns and wide streets is one of the most sough after communities in Springfield. Homes do not come often on the market.  People do not like to move out once they are in! When they do come on the market they are usually gone within days.

New Charleston is located less than a mile to Springfield Town Center  and the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station on the Blue Line.  It is also close to Ft. Belvoir, The Pentagon and Washington, DC.  Springfield Town Center was recently renovated and offers great restaurants and stores, including a fitness center. There is also a great farmers market on the weekends.

There are also plently of parks for the nature lover nearby. One popular site, and a favorite of my family, is Hidden Pond Nature Center .  Hidden Pond is part of the Fairfax County Park Authority is under 2 miles from Charlestown. They have a live exibit of local animals, walking trails and of course, the hidden pond. The county offers nature classes for adults and children, there are picnic areas, gazebos you can rent for activities and a new playground. If you are interested in something more challenging hike, paddle boat or fishing, Lake Accotink Park is also nearby.  Here you can also have private events, they have a great summer camp and the views and nature watching is amazing.
